Government has allocated a total of $33.7 million in its 2018 -2019 National Budget for the improvement of water sources and water treatment plants.
This is an increase of $19m from last year.
The project comes under the Water Authority of Fiji aims to allow access of clean, safe and reliable water supply throughout Fiji.
The allocation will cover the implementation of water package treatment plants in Nabouwalu, Deuba, Levuka, Savusavu and Nagado.
This includes the completion of a new water system in Vakaderebua, Taveuni.
The installation of stainless water tanks with the cost of $5.7m will improve water distribution at Nadi and Lautoka Hospital including some areas in Suva and Ba too.
As part of works to improve water supply, a total of $1.3m has been allocated for leak repairs at the Vaturu Dam and another $2.6m for repair works at Nagado Water Treatment Plant in the highlands of Nadi.
The total allocation for WAF was $349.3m, an increase of $42m.
