A total of 23,382 people living in rural areas will benefit from the rural water supply programme under the Water Authority of Fiji in the 2018-2019 National Budget.
A total of 133 rural water projects are covered in this budget allocation worth $18.8 million.
Meanwhile, the overall allocation for this project announced by Government last night stands at $27 million.
This will cover rural unsurveyed works, project management, pump maintenance programme, maintenance of rural boreholes, installation of 50 Ecological Purification Systems (EPS) and maintenance of existing 56 EPS systems.
It will include funding of desalination plants in Viwa Island, Vanuavatu Island, Kavewa Island and Kia Island.
Meanwhile, another $37,664,590 was allocated for the urban water supply and wastewater management project designed to improve vital urban infrastructure and services to support the rapid growth and development in the Greater Suva Area.
