Residents of a small community in Bua have been shaken with the discovery of a decomposed body on Saturday evening.
Aisea Tudravu said the body of the man had been in the living room of the property for a few days.
“His body was discovered by neighbours and an uncle of mine on Friday morning,” Mr Tudravu said.
“My uncle had suspected something had gone wrong after he had not been seen for few days.
“His body was all black and was decaying. We think the body had been lying there for more than three days causing an unbearable smell.
“Two weeks ago we had seen him clean the compound and walking past our home for a grog session at the community hall.
“He was looking after his son and he was a loving and caring person,” Mr Tudravu added.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the 56-year-old man was found dead inside his living room.
“The victim was staying with his 29-year-old son, who is of unsound mind, at Korokadi Settlement in Bua,” Ms Naisoro said.
“The man was last seen on June 24, 2018 by his neighbour. Initial examination does not seem to indicate any foul play,” she said.
Police will be conducting a post mortem examination to ascertain the cause of death.
