Garbage truck driver charged after grandmother struck and killed

Police have charged the driver of a garbage truck which struck and killed a Sydney woman while she was walking her young grandson in a pram on Thursday.

Just before midday on Thursday, emergency services were called to Moorilla Street, near Pittwater Road, in Dee Why, where they found the 58-year-old woman under the truck with severe lower body injuries.

Paramedics were unable to revive a woman who was struck while walking her grandson, who was not injured, on Sydney's northern beaches.

Despite efforts by paramedics, the woman was unable to be saved. 

Her young grandson, found nearby in a pram, was uninjured.
