On April 12, Li Shi, the construction contractor, who was part of the gang, ordered other workers to leave the site so that his accomplice can carry out the murder in secret.
Later that day, Li Lei brought two newly arrived workers to the site and hit them with an angle bar while they were busy working. The workers died on the spot.
The murders were carried out at the construction site for the ultra high-voltage power transmission lines at Shanghang county in Fujian.
After the two immigrant workers were murdered, Zhang Bin and Zhu Yang impersonated as their family members, and swindled a compensation of around 1.6 million yuan ($241,800).
Zhang and Zhu were sentenced to four years in prison for fraud.
Some convicts were reportedly on the run as of press time and the local public security bureau has issued order of arrest online.
The case came after a similar incident for which death sentences were given in August 2014.
Handan city court of North China's Hebei Province gave death sentences and life imprisonment to eight of a 21-man gang who intentionally killed four migrant miners within a year to swindle compensation.
The group swindled a compensation of a total of 1.8 million yuan, news site thepaper.cn reported.
